Founded by Artist-teacher Ellie Green (MA Art Ed) in May 2016, Surrey Art School is a Seasonal Art School inspired by Nature and Rooted in Mindfulness.

Ellie believes in the healing powers of creativity and the importance of engaging in a regular creative practice to help us stay anchored to the present moment and to help reduce stress and anxiety.

All her classes beginner-kind and inspired by nature and the seasons and aim to help our students re-establish a connection to nature, the seasons and our true selves.

My classes are beginner-kind, calm and focused, using mindful creativity to 'switch off' from the busy world, slow down and give full attention to our surroundings.

I see being creative as a ‘moving meditation’ - whether we paint, draw or print - we ‘make’ with the intention of slowing down - knowing that both creativity and a connection to nature can help enhance our overall sense of well-being.

I hope one day our classes will be available on prescription!

SAS Founder : Ellie Green (MA Ed.)

A highly experienced Arts and Education specialist , Ellie has been teaching, lecturing, organising events working in gallery education for over 10 years - working with major institutions including the IOE, the Southbank and the Whitechapel Gallery.  In July 2015, Ellie left the big smoke for the rolling hills of Surrey and in May 2016 founded Surrey Art School. And the rest is history..

Ellie says: “Tired of stuffy, airless classrooms, Surrey Art School was my chance to teach in a way I’d always dreamed of - teaching small groups in a calm and non-competitive atmosphere with a focus on individual growth. I now design and teach to my own curriculum, inspired by nature and the seasons, rooted in mindfulness.

Founding Surrey Art School has been life-changing in terms of my sense of personal freedom and improved quality of life - I’ve felt a huge shift in my mental and physical well-being. Nature is classroom, my temple, my teacher and the finest of all Artists, if you ask me.”

Ellie now works part time as an Art teacher and Eco lead in a local mental health facility school for young people aged 18-25 and runs Surrey Art School part time too! Learn with her online, book an event in Surrey or book her for your corporate event here.
