Harvest Autumn project - more info

Autumn is the season of foraging and during our ‘Harvest’ project we foraged for local inspiration to fill our Sketchbooks with the ‘gifts of nature’ so abundant at this time of year! This project includes Fruits of the Hedgerow, Fruits of the trees, Fruits of the Forest (including Fungi!) and Fruits of the field!

Cycle 1: Fruits of the Hedgerows - Rosehips, Blackberries and Sloes - Line drawing and mark-making, Inky berries with drawing ink, Rosehips in watercolour step by step, Seasonal colour mixing - establishing an Autumn palette, A berry ink recipe,

Cycle 2: Fruits of the Hedgerows part 2 - Blackberries, Crab apples and Composition - How to create full, rich visual research pages in your sketchbook, Leaf identification exercises and colour mixing, an inky study of blackberries, A crab-apple study on Oatmeal Watercolour paper

Cycle 3: Fruits of the Forest - Chestnuts, Acorns, Sycamore seeds and Oak leaves - Laying inky grounds in warm and cool tones, Sycamore seeds in dip pen & ink, fruits of the oak - Oak galls, ink, and oak dyes, Dry grounds - collage & pastel chestnut studies.

Cycle 4: Fruits of the forest : Mushrooms - Mushroom sketching in pencil, Wet grounds and exploring ink and a dip pen with Mushrooms, Laying dry, textured grounds for mushrooms, Working on a dark / dry ground - working light onto dark surface Shaggy Ink cap study, How to make mushroom paper, how to make spore prints

Cycle 5: Fruits of the Field : Pumpkins, Squashes, Gourds - Pumpkins and Gourds in Ink & Watercolour, Pumpkin insides - laying a textured ground using pva and working over.

Cycle 6: Fruits of our Learning : Root Vegetables and Composition ideas - My first carrot Harvest and sketching carrots, experiments with Ink & watercolour to paint our carrots in the ground, composition ideas.

Materials used in this project (not included in project price): 2B Pencil, Drawing Inks ( Black, Brown, Burnt Umber) and Dip pen, A 12 pan set of Watercolours, Round syththetic watercolour brush size 6. Black and Brown toned paper, 300GSM Watercolour paper, Oatmeal tinted watercolour paper. All these materials are available to purchase in our Art Shop.
